Description
Westlake Pipe & Fittings 438-210 Reducer Bushing, 1.5″ SPG x .75″ FPT
The Westlake Pipe & Fittings 438-210 reducer bushing is designed to provide a reliable, compact solution for transitioning a 1½-inch nominal Schedule 40 PVC spigot connection down to a ¾-inch female pipe thread (FPT). As a high-quality molded PVC fitting, it embodies the robust standards associated with Westlake’s Schedule 40 line of thermoplastic fittings — allowing it to serve in a variety of commercial, industrial and residential plumbing systems where high performance, corrosion resistance and solvent-weld compatibility are required.
This reducer bushing features a spigot end sized for insertion (solvent-cemet weld) into a 1½″ nominal Schedule 40 PVC socket or pipe, ensuring a flush, seamless interface. The opposite end is threaded (female) to accept a ¾″ male threaded pipe or fitting, facilitating a durable mechanical connection. This dual-end design offers installers flexibility: the spigot end integrates cleanly into a welded PVC system, while the threaded side enables adaptation to metal, plastic, or transitional fittings through standard male threads.
Constructed from a rigid PVC compound certified under ASTM D1784, and manufactured to Westlake’s dimensional standards for Schedule 40 systems, the 438-210 provides reliable performance under normal service conditions. Its internal bore transitions smoothly from the larger 1½″ spigot dimension to the ¾″ female thread, maintaining a consistent wall thickness and minimizing stress concentrations at the reduction point — thereby reducing the likelihood of cracking or failure under mechanical or thermal loading. In addition, the fitting is listed for potable water use (NSF approval) and meets the common requirements for cold water applications, wastewater, irrigation, and other non-pressurized or low-pressure piping systems (as per listings).
Installation is straightforward: the spigot end is primed and solvent-cemented into the PVC system in line with Westlake’s and solvent-cement manufacturer’s instructions. The threaded end receives a compatible male pipe thread connection, typically sealed with PTFE tape or pipe thread compound for leak-resistance. Its compact size means it can fit into tight spaces where a bulkier reducer might not, and its molded construction ensures dimensional consistency so that alignment and fit-up are simplified on site.
In operation, the 438-210 handles the mechanical demands of standard Schedule 40 systems (including typical internal water pressures and external loads) while offering the chemical resistance of PVC (good resistance to water, salts, many acids/bases, and general wastewater).
